A stunning timelapse video shows the sheer scale of work that went into realising the UAE’s Expo 2020 dream.
With just five days to go, Expo 2020 Dubai shared the video that captures the eight years of dedication that helped create the incredible architecture for the region’s first world fair.

The 40-second video begins with an overhead shot of an empty desert land adjacent to Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai South. It quickly shapes into the iconic site it is today, with the desert terrain coming alive with the Expo’s iconic architecture.
The timelapse video shows how the mega event’s Al Wasl Dome rose up from the desert sands. It also captures the way trees were planted at the venue.

It ends with a reminder to the world: The greatest show begins in five days.
Earlier this month, a then-and-now photo collage of the UAE Vice-President at the Expo 2020 Dubai site in 2016 and 2021 had illustrated how the country transformed a dream into reality in five years.
The first half of the collage shows His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, at the Expo site in 2016. The site was nothing but a desert then.
Fast-forward to September 1, 2021 – when the Dubai Ruler visited the site to kickstart the one-month countdown to the mega event – and you see him atop the 55-metre ‘Garden in the Sky’ observation tower, taking in 360-degree views of all that Expo has to offer.

Woman dies after Alec Baldwin fires prop gun on film set

US actor Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun that killed a cinematographer and wounded the director on a film set in New Mexico, US law enforcement officers said Thursday.
The incident happened on the set of “Rust” in the southwestern US state, where Baldwin is playing the lead in a 19th-century western.
Halyna Hutchins and Joel Souza “were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin,” the sheriff in Santa Fe said in a statement.
Hutchins, 42, was transported to hospital by helicopter but died of her wounds, while Souza, 48, was taken by ambulance and is receiving treatment.
No charges have been filed over the incident, which is being investigated, with witness interviews ongoing.
A spokesperson from the production told The Hollywood Reporter the “accident” involved the misfire of a prop gun with blanks.
A sheriff’s spokesman told the publication that the director was in “critical condition.”
The incident took place at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a production location near Santa Fe which is popular with Hollywood filmmakers.
Movie sets usually have stringent rules over the use of prop weapons, but accidents have happened.
Most famously, Brandon Lee, the son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, died during filming of “The Crow” after being shot by a gun that was supposed to fire blanks.

NCM issues rough sea warning

UAE residents can look forward to a dip in temperature on Friday.
According to the National Centre of Meteorology, low clouds associated with light rains are expected to appear eastward, causing a dip in temperature. Skies will be fair to partly cloudy and hazy at times during the daytime.
The weather body also issued an alert warning of rough seas in the Arabian Gulf, which is expected to become moderate gradually by night. The Oman Sea will remain slight.
